Trail Running foot races in a natural environment, covering the trails of the Supramonte, with start and finish in the municipality of Oliena (NU).

Art. 3 Participation

The races are open to all individuals, men and women, who have reached the age of 18 at the time of registration, whether affiliated with a sports club or not.

Registrations from athletes serving doping disqualifications in any discipline will not be accepted.

The registration limit is set at:

500 total athletes for all distances of the "OLIENA SKY TRAIL."

Art. 4 Self-sufficiency

The races are in complete semi-self-sufficiency. Refreshment points will be stocked with potable water and food for supplementing personal supplies.

No plastic cups will be available at the refreshment points. Athletes must have their own cup or suitable personal container. Each runner must ensure they have the minimum amount of water required as mandatory equipment when leaving each refreshment station, enough to reach the next one. Personal assistance is prohibited outside designated points (refreshment stations). Being accompanied by another person not officially registered is also prohibited.

Art. 5 Registration Conditions

The race reaches elevations of up to 1400 meters, and conditions may be challenging (night, wind, cold, rain). There are no mountaineering difficulties; however, there are very short sections classified as "For Expert Hikers" (EE) by the Italian Alpine Club (CAI). Proper training and a real capacity for personal autonomy are essential to successfully complete this individual challenge.

There are no specific restrictions for registering for the OLIENA SKY TRAIL, but for the Ultra race, it is strongly recommended that participants have already completed other long trails (over 40 km). A valid medical certificate for competitive sports, recognized in the country of residence, is mandatory to validate the registration.

The medical certificate, for competitive track and field, must be provided at the time of registration on the website. It will be processed and validated by the agency responsible for registration and timing. If the registered athlete does not provide the sports medical certificate, they will not be allowed to compete. No certificates or registrations will be accepted on the day of the event.

Art. 6 Registration Method

Registration is done exclusively online by completing the designated form in full, no later than October 6, 2024. Payment is made at the time of registration through an online service with a credit card. Once payment is confirmed and the medical certificate submitted, the registration will be recorded in the organization’s database.

Registrations will close on October 6, 2024, unless extended.

The registration fee includes all services described in these regulations, the race pack, buffet at the finish, post-race meal, full assistance, refreshment stations during the race, any return transport to the Oliena base, and post-race showers. Accommodation and meals on Friday and Saturday nights are not included.

Art. 7 Acceptance of the Rules and Race Ethics

Participation in the "OLIENA SKY TRAIL" implies unconditional acceptance of these regulations and the race's ethics, published by the organization and available for consultation.

Art. 8 Refund of Registration Fees

Athletes already registered but injured before the race will be entitled to a 50% refund of the registration fee, provided they submit adequate medical documentation.

IN THE EVENT OF CANCELLATION DUE TO HEALTH REASONS, RELATED TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS, THE FULL AMOUNT WILL BE REFUNDED LESS 10% FOR ADMINISTRATIVE AND SERVICE COSTS.

NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN IF THE EVENT IS CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS THAT PREVENT THE RACE FROM TAKING PLACE, BUT THE REGISTRATION WILL BE VALID FOR THE NEXT EDITION.

Art. 10 Bib Numbers

Each bib number will be issued individually to each participant upon presentation of a photo ID. The bib must be worn on the chest or abdomen and remain fully visible throughout the entire race. It must be placed over all clothing and cannot be attached to the backpack. Before the start, each runner must pass through the entrance gates to the closed starting area to be registered. When passing a control point and upon arrival, the runner must ensure that they have been properly recorded. Punching is essential, as it verifies the presence of the runner between two checkpoints. If a runner fails to be recorded, triggering a search operation, the costs of this will be charged to the runner. The bib is the necessary pass for access to shuttles, refreshment areas, medical care, rest rooms, and showers (if available).

Art. 11 Safety and Medical Assistance

At every water station, there will be an emergency call point. These stations are connected via radio or telephone with race headquarters. Ambulances, mountain rescue, civil protection, and medical staff will be present along the route.

The rescue points are intended to assist any participants in danger with the organization’s resources or through external agencies. Official doctors are authorized to remove any participants deemed unfit to continue the race. Rescuers are authorized to evacuate runners judged to be in danger by any means they deem appropriate.

In case of necessity, and for the sole interest of the rescued person, the organization may call upon the official mountain rescue services, which will then take over the rescue operations and use all appropriate means, including helicopters. Any costs arising from the use of such exceptional means will be charged to the person being rescued, in accordance with current regulations. Any runner calling upon a doctor or rescuer is subject to their authority and must comply with their decisions.

Art. 12 Control Points and Refreshment Stations

Competitors are checked at all control points or water stations. Only runners with visible bib numbers are allowed access to the refreshment stations. The Road Book will provide a precise list of the natural water points for refilling CamelBags or water bottles. Additional "Flying" checkpoints will be placed outside the rescue and refreshment points, and their locations will not be disclosed by the organization.

Art. 13 Maximum Authorized Time and Time Barriers

The maximum time for the Ultra Sky Supramonte race, for the entire course, is set at 12.5 hours. The cut-off times at the main control points will be defined and communicated in the Road Book. These barriers are calculated to allow participants to reach the finish within the maximum allowed time, including rest and food breaks. To be authorized to continue, competitors must leave the control points before the time limit.

Otherwise, they will be disqualified, and their bib will be removed. Any runner who decides to continue without a bib and outside the race will do so under their own responsibility for any consequences. In the event of bad weather and/or safety reasons, the organization reserves the right to stop the race, delay the start, modify the course, or adjust the time barriers.

Note: The final checkpoints and refreshment stations will be announced about a month before the event.
Note: The race sweep team, which is part of the race management, has full authority to stop an athlete at any point, even outside of an official time barrier.

Art. 14 Withdrawals and Returns

In case of withdrawal from the race, the participant must go to the nearest control point and notify the staff of their withdrawal to be registered. The organization will arrange their return to the Oliena base. Failure to notify a withdrawal and any subsequent search for the runner will result in the costs being charged to the runner.

Art. 15 Penalties – Disqualification

Course marshals are authorized to check mandatory equipment and general compliance with the rules (respect for the environment and race ethics, illegal assistance or pacing, visible bib number...). Any competitor found without even one piece of mandatory equipment during a control will be immediately disqualified, with no possibility of appeal. Irregularities detected via video footage received after the race may also result in disqualification.

The race jury may disqualify a competitor in the case of serious rule violations, particularly for:

  • Bib not worn correctly
  • Bib exchange
  • Missing a control point
  • Missing some or all of the mandatory equipment
  • Using a means of transportation
  • Leaving a control point after the time barrier
  • Doping or refusal to submit to a doping test
  • Failure to assist another competitor in difficulty
  • Receiving assistance outside of designated points
  • Discarding personal equipment or littering along the route
  • Violating the rule against having a companion on the course
  • Polluting or damaging the environment by a competitor or a member of their team
  • Insulting, being rude, or threatening volunteers or members of the organization
  • Refusal to submit to a medical examination by the organization’s doctors at any time during the race
  • Course cutting

Art. 16 Complaints

Complaints will only be accepted in writing within 30 minutes of the posting of the provisional results, accompanied by a deposit of €50.00.

Art. 17 Jury

The jury is composed of:

  • The race director
  • The safety coordinator
  • The head of the medical team
  • The heads of the control points in question

All individuals designated by the president of the organizing committee. The jury is empowered to deliberate within a timeframe compatible with the race’s obligations on all disputes or disqualifications during the race. The decisions are final and without appeal.

Art. 18 Course Changes or Time Barriers – Race Cancellation

The organization reserves the right to modify the course or the location of rescue and refreshment points at any time, without notice. In case of adverse weather conditions (e.g., heavy rain, snow at high altitude, significant risk of thunderstorms...), the start may be delayed; beyond a certain time limit set by the Race Director, the race will be canceled.

Art. 18 bis Road Book

The most updated version of the Road Book will be available on the organization’s website. Competitors are encouraged to download and print it. It will contain practical information such as control point closing times, course descriptions, and coordinates. Any updates to the Road Book will be posted on the website. No copies of the Road Book will be provided with the bib numbers.

Art. 19 Insurance

The organization provides liability insurance for the entire event. Participation is entirely at the competitors' own risk, and they waive any claims against the organizers for damages or consequences arising during the race. By registering online, participants automatically accept the rules.

Art. 20 Rankings and Prizes

Only competitors who reach the Oliena finish and register their time within the maximum time allowed by the organization will be included in the rankings. No cash prizes will be awarded. Each runner will receive a finisher’s medal. General male and female rankings will be prepared. The top three men and women in each competitive race will be awarded prizes.

Art. 21 Image Rights

By participating, each competitor expressly waives any claim to image rights during the race and any subsequent appeal against the organization or its authorized partners for the use of their image.
